The United States Open Tennis Championship on Sunday fined Mike Bryan $10000 for pointing a shooting at a line judge. Mike Bryan is an American doubles tennis player who was fined on Sunday for making a wrong call.
Brian was playing with his twin brother Bob, holding his racket upside down and after successfully challenging the wrong call it was misquoted.
Mariana Alves, a chair umpire, issued a rule violation against Mike Bryan for breach of a rule.
The Bryan brothers, winning 16 Grand Slam doubles titles as a team, won the second round match 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 against Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain and Federico Delbonis of Argentina.
This is one of the highest fines taken by a male player in this tournament.
Brian said in his statement in the New York Times that “I apologize for any crime I have committed. We won and the gesture was only fickle.”
But as the recent news and political environment has created, I understand how insensitive my gesture can be viewed. I promise I will never do that again, Brian said.
Let me tell you that seven people were killed in Texas on Saturday, the latest of several mass shootings in the United States this year.
